This is my first game review and I will be reviewing a game which is very debatable on itself non other than the Warcraft 3 custom map called Defense of the Ancients by Icefrog or easier said DoTA.
The first time I heard about DoTA was approximately four years from now, that is when I am very much drowned to playing Red Alert 2, Counter Strike and of course Warcraft 3 The Frozen throne, my first comment about the game is that nothing which is just a custom map of the game Warcraft would be well worth my time as it is a very small and multi-player map. To the sake of those who are not familiar with warcraft, Warcraft has its own language bundled with a Map Editor called world edit, when you play Warcraft you have the ability to play a custom game of either the Map created from the World Editor and the map which is bundled with the game, and DoTA is one of the maps created using the WorldEdit program, though it is not as simple as that of course, it even has its own language to run the map.
The first impression had for DoTA was not really good as I am already familiar with warcraft, but the first time I played it with some classmates, i really felt that i did judge it the wrong way and didn't even notice the essence of why those who played it are very hooked into it. DoTA is very challenging and competitive when played with a couple of friends, it offers a new network for you to not just limit your gaming inside your house sitting and waiting for a monster to bite your head, it allows you to interact with others, DoTA offers a variety of strategy and learning each parts of the game can be fun by itself, DoTA unlike new games doesn't need latest computer hardware to run you can play it with your pentium III, it also comes with an AI map which allows you to play with the computer in the case that you want to learn more about the game before playing with other people, the level of popularity of DoTA has reach a very competitive state that world cups and international tournaments are normally being held.
DoTA is truly fun in it's nature but sometimes there are things which makes it not very likely playable by beginners as DoTA offers different way of being played with others either by Battle.Net, Garena, or LAN the number of people who are by nature disrespectful ruins the fun the game offers, it happens in a game like DoTA where beginners get labeled by whatever the good or average players wanted such Noobs, Idiots, or whatever they want to call you, so if you ever played with this kind of people i rather you don't let get it into you, though this people don't think that the person on the other side is still a person you just have to think that its just the game and you are to enjoy it. One thing I also don't like about the non-competitive DoTA is how exploits are not being well fix, although there are new versions that regularly come out, there are always exploits that remain, there are game specific things which i rather not say but really do make the game less balance. Well balance is the biggest issue of DoTA but I believe the developer IceFrog is always doing his best to address each of this.
It may also be worth addressing, the music and sounds of DoTA are almost the native musics of Warcraft 3, though it is fairly good, it can always be improve as it is sometime boring especially if you have ever been playing Warcraft for a long time now. There is nothing to say about the graphics, the graphics of Warcraft by itself is good considering how long the game has been and the performance it offers. I think it has the best 3D in terms of performance game has ever been made.
Overall DoTA is a very good multiplayer game, it offers a range of competitive gameplay, styles and strategies, it also offers great community and forums and has very good game performance.
